ABOUT PHILIPPA BERRY
I graduated from Middlesex University with a BA Performance Arts. Jobs later included working as PA to theatre producer Bill Kenwright, as Production Secretary at Video Arts Ltd and in the Development department at the National Theatre. A move into the charity sector and towards community arts came with roles on a creative arts team working in schools, and then as Project Manager of a youth internet radio initiative.
I began a part-time course subsidised by the then London Arts Board, and emerged one year later with a Certificate of Professional Practice in Youth Arts Development through Goldsmiths University. In my spare time I was setting up a range of community arts events and activities, such as regular breakfast meetings for those involved in the creative industries, an art exhibition, a dance showcase and singing workshops.
In 2002, the opportunity arose to take a brand new role at a high school in West London, funded through the ODPM's Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. Part of my work there involved setting up and managing an extra curricular arts education programme, in consultation with the students.
In May 2007 I gained a merit in an MA in Professional Practice (Freelance Arts Practice) through Middlesex University, which formed the basis of my own move into freelance work.
In addition to the projects and work I undertake for and with clients, I am initiating and developing arts projects.
